Indentured Servitude Indentured servitude was where slave owners brought slaves in to help with crops. They would help plant tobacco, rice and more. They would bring in the master and their servant and have them both work on planting and harvesting the crops.

Anyone who brought in a servant would get an award. They would get 50 acres of land. This started in Virginia and Maryland. The servants would get their freedom if they worked for a certain period of time. each servant worked for 5 years before they were rewarded. while they were working, they would get a room to stay in during their work.
